English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran announces new album ‘–’. See when it will be released

On March 1, Ed Sheeran revealed on social media that his new album, titled "-," will be released on May 5 through Atlantic Records. This album will mark the end of Sheeran's mathematical album era, which began with 2011's "+," followed by 2014's "x," 2017's "÷," and 2021's "=".

According to Sheeran, he has been working on this album for a decade, attempting to create the perfect acoustic album by writing and recording hundreds of songs. However, he stated that his mental health and personal life were impacted by a series of events at the beginning of 2022, which changed his perspective on music and art.

As a result, Sheeran used songwriting as a form of therapy and wrote without any predetermined ideas, resulting in his deepest and darkest thoughts emerging. He detailed how within a month, his pregnant wife was diagnosed with a tumor, his best friend died suddenly, and he had to defend his career and integrity in court. This led him to feel overwhelmed by fear, depression, and anxiety.




In his announcement, Sheeran concluded that he felt like he was drowning and unable to break through the surface. Therefore, he wanted to create something that was honest and true to his current life, rather than attempting to please others. He teamed up with Aaron Dessner, a member of The National, whom he met through Taylor Swift, to produce and write over 30 songs during their month-long studio session.

The 14-track album will feature folk-leaning qualities and full-band and orchestral arrangements. The tracklist for "-," pronounced "Subtract," includes songs, such as "Boat," "Salt Water," "Eyes Closed," "Life Goes On," "Dusty," "End of Youth," "Colourblind," "Curtains," "Borderline," "Spark," "Vega," "Sycamore," "No Strings," and "The Hills of Aberfeldy." "Subtract" is currently available for pre-order.
