End of Covid-19 pandemic to affect Americans, 5-14 million could lose Medicaid coverage

As things are getting back to normal, the U.S government has started considering withdrawing the Medicaid coverage as it has cost the exchequer 47 billion dollars.

The federal government had given a lucrative deal to states sanctioning $100 billion for those in need. The state government set the condition that not a single citizen will be removed from the Medicaid coverage until the public health emergency ends.

The support was extended for two years as the situation did not improve during covid-19. During this quarter, as the public health emergency is coming to an end, the federal govt will not pay the total amount and will contribute only by paying some portion. The states will need to hurry and look for those who still qualify for this program and reach out to them.


The date of ending the public health emergency is scheduled to end on 15th July, but the records say that every time the date got closer, extensions were sanctioned according to the situation. The government has said that it will inform the states 60 days before ending this program, so the states are looking forward to the update from the federal government.

After the declaration of the date, the states will have 12 months to check the eligibility of people who still qualify for the program.
