Emory University police alert after reports of possible gunfire near CDC campus
Emory University was possibly the site of the latest rounds of gunfire in the United States, after several social media posts showed that bullets flew on the campus on Friday afternoon—near headquarters of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The University’s safety app was quick to send a police emergency alert, Hindustan Times reported, as students and staff were warned to staff off the premises. However, police are yet to confirm the shooting and are still assessing what's happening inside.

Police emergency alert at Emory Point

A local reporter posted on X that police were responding to an incident on Emory Point Drive near the CDC campus. The reporter also said a news helicopter was asked to leave the area because of safety concerns. A post by a local reporter was circulated on X, claiming that police were nearing Emory point drive and that a news helicopter had been asked to vacate the area due to safety concerns.


Speculations were fueled after CBS News ala confirmed that Emory University has alerted students about an ongoing police emergency. The emergency, as per the alert was cited at Emory Point on Clifton Road, near the CDC headquarters, where CBS News Atlanta cameras showed Emory police officers carrying long guns at the mixed-use Emory Point area. Officials have asked people living nearby to avoid the area until further notice.

Past CDC shooting raises safety concerns

This incident comes months after a deadly shooting at a CDC building in August, as noted by Hindustan Times. In that earlier attack, a DeKalb County police officer was shot and killed while responding to the scene. The suspect involved in the August CDC shooting later died by suicide.

Emory University is located in the Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia. The campus is about 15 minutes northeast of downtown Atlanta and is close to major institutions like the CDC. Emory University is a private research university with a suburban-style campus.
