Disney villain Ursula's voice, Emmy-winning actor Pat Carroll dies at 95

Pat Carroll is one of the finest actors, who is famous for comedy roles and for being the voice of villain 'Ursula' in "The Little Mermaid".

American actor Pat Carroll has died. She was 95. Carroll breathed her last in her home in Cape Cod, Massachusetts after suffering from pneumonia, her daughter Kerry Karsian told Hollywood Reporter. She was an Emmy award winner and lent her voice to the iconic Disney villain 'Ursula'.

Carroll was born in 1927 in Louisiana, and her family shifted to Los Angeles when she was just five years old. She soon started acting and made her debut in 1947 with Hometown Girl. However, it was the variety of shows that helped her make a name for herself in the next 30 years.

She received the Emmy award for her memorable performance in Caesar's Hour, she had performed alongside Charley Weaver, Steve Allen, Micket Rooner and Jimmy Durante in the several shows during those days.

Her first voice-over came in The Super 6 in 1966, and she was a regular in cartoons with her voice by the 80s. Her show, one-woman show Gertrude Stein, which became very successful, got her a Grammy in 1980. She has lent her voice to My Neighbor Totoro, Superman, Garfield, Scooby-Doo and Treasure Hunt.

In 1989, 'The Little Mermaid' helped her realise her dream of working in a Disney movie. She told Allan Neuwirth that it was a childhood dream of hers.

She got pretty famous with Makin' Toons: Inside the Most Popular Animated TV Shows and Movies. The New York Times was full of praise for her for the voice role of Ursula. Carroll was a fan of Ursula and reworked it in the Kingdom Hearts games.

She got roles for TV throughout her career, and she played memorable roles in She's the Sheriff, The Love Boat and ER, Laverne & Shirley, The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Too Close for Comfort.

Carroll is survived by two daughters and one granddaughter.

The list of Emmy nominees in key categories for the 74th Emmy Awards is out. 'Succession' led the way in Emmy nominations, which saw the Television Academy's 20,000 voters sift through record submissions as production ramped back up from the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
