Emil Forsberg delivered late-game heroics to lift the New York Red Bulls to a dramatic 1-0 victory over Guadalajara in their Leagues Cup group-stage opener Thursday night in Harrison, New Jersey.

In the seventh minute of second-half stoppage time, Forsberg curled a free kick from 20 yards out through the wall and into the bottom right corner, sealing the win in stunning fashion.

Red Bulls goalkeeper Anthony Marcucci recorded four saves to secure the clean sheet, while Guadalajara’s Raul Rangel made three saves in a hard-fought match.

Cincinnati beat Monterrey 3-2

Luca Orellano’s 53rd-minute goal proved decisive as FC Cincinnati held off a late Monterrey surge to secure a 3-2 victory at home in their Leagues Cup group-stage clash.

With the match tied 1-1 early in the second half, Orellano combined brilliantly with Evander, who threaded a perfect pass to send him through on goal. Orellano calmly rounded goalkeeper Luis Cardenas and slotted home to give Cincinnati the lead.

Pavel Bucha extended the advantage in the 90th minute, a crucial cushion after Monterrey’s German Berterame pulled one back four minutes later. Evander opened the scoring in the 31st minute before Sergio Canales equalized just before halftime.

FC Juarez thrash Charlotte FC 4-1

Madson scored twice in the first half to lead visiting FC Juárez to a 4-1 win over Charlotte FC in Leagues Cup group-stage action. Madson opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a well-placed header off a Jose Luis Rodriguez cross.
