A former SpaceX and Starlink employee has shared his experience of working for Elon Musk. Vincent Peters, now CEO of Inheritance AI, described his time under the billionaire as an “eye-opening” experience.

He characterised Musk as a leader who places immense trust in his employees — until he eventually loses confidence in their abilities.

Elon Musk not a micromanager, says ex-SpaceX employee

Peters said that Musk is definitely not a micromanager. He described him as someone who actively familiarises himself with every aspect of his companies, from top to bottom. According to Peters, Musk creates an environment where he has the utmost trust in his employees — until that trust is lost.

Peters shares Musk's approach to handling conflicts

Peters, who joined SpaceX in 2018 as an information compliance and assurance manager, said that Musk’s approach to running his companies involves addressing conflicts from a “fundamental standpoint” aligned with core business principles.

DOGE under fire for email to federal employees

This comes just days after the Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) faced backlash over an email instructing all federal government employees to report their work accomplishments over the “past week.”

The email warned that failure to comply could result in termination.

During his discussion with Fox Business, Peters praised Musk’s “track record” at both Tesla and SpaceX. He recalled instances when Tesla was grappling with financial difficulties and SpaceX underwent restructuring, leading to job cuts.

The former SpaceX manager stated that he does not expect Musk to soften his stance as the administrator of DOGE.
