Twitter legacy blue checkmarks will be phased out in a few months, and users will have to pay for their Twitter services. To stop fake accounts, the idea is to check the follower count and determine who is a celebrity and who is not. Twitter could then arbitrarily block the fake accounts and suspend their operations.

Elon Musk said that the Twitter team is working hard to ensure a "rock solid" Twitter Blue without any glitches. Earlier impersonation problems occurred with multiple Twitter handles donning celebrity names when Twitter Blue was launched. People paid for their Twitter names, and many fake accounts were opened in a matter of weeks. This created a massive problem for Twitter staff, as maintaining user discipline became a significant part of their work.

Deliberately fake accounts that have a list of followers but are known to be fake will be removed from the handle.

In the USA, the cost of a Twitter Blue will be $7.99, while in India, it is expected to be around Rs 719. Many Twitter users in India have already begun complaining that the cost is higher than in the USA. Twitter has around 450 million users currently, with 41 million paying users. Brands have been very vocal about their visibility on Twitter and say the costs are worth it.
