The tension stems from both men's overwhelming need for attention. Swisher noted that Elon Musk needs a lot of attention and Trump would be irritated by that. Swisher's analysis was echoed by CNN host Chris Wallace, who reflected on similar tensions during Trump’s first term, citing how former strategist Steve Bannon’s rise to prominence caused unease within the administration. “I remember thinking, ‘The boss is not gonna like that,’” Wallace recalled, referring to Bannon’s Time magazine cover in 2017.
Musk’s influence has raised speculation that he could be given a prominent role in Trump’s administration.
