Elizabeth Holmes breaks silence on prison life: ‘Hell and torture’ at Texas facility
Elizabeth Holmes, serving time for fraud, reflects on prison life, motherhood, and personal growth while maintaining her innocence in a rare interview.

Describing her time at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas as “hell and torture,” the 41-year-old stated that she remains committed to maintaining her innocence while focusing on self-improvement.
Daily life in prison
Holmes follows a strict routine, waking up at five in the morning and exercising for 40 minutes, including jogging, weightlifting and rowing, according to a report US Magazine. Her sentence, originally 11 years, has been reduced to nine years for good behaviour. Holmes works as a re-entry clerk in the education building, earning 31 cents per hour.The report also reveals that the former entrepreneur primarily follows a vegan diet but started eating salmon and tuna after developing anaemia. She uses her allotted 300 minutes of monthly phone time to call her family twice a day. Her family members, including her husband Billy Evans, frequently visit her on weekends.

Motherhood and advocacy
A few months before reporting to prison, Holmes gave birth to her child and has since become an advocate for imprisoned mothers. Reportedly, she was permitted to carry two breast pumps to provide milk for her daughter.Theranos scandal and conviction
Holmes founded Theranos in 2003, promising to revolutionise blood-testing technology with a method that could detect diseases from just a finger-prick sample. She raised nearly $700 million from investors and secured deals with major companies like Walgreens.However, concerns about the accuracy of Theranos' technology emerged in 2015, leading to an FDA investigation. In 2018, Holmes and her former partner Sunny Balwani were charged with fraud. Balwani was sentenced to 13 years in prison.
