Eliza Fletcher's murder suspect to be presented in US court

Eliza Fletcher was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by a man named Cleotha Henderson. He is due back in court on Monday morning, September 11, after he was charged in connection with alleged rape and kidnapping in the 2021 case.

The man who allegedly kidnapped and murdered Eliza Fletcher in Memphis in the US will reappear in court on Monday morning. On Thursday, the man, named Cleotha Henderson, aged 38, was charged with another case of allegedly raping and kidnapping a woman in 2021. He will now be presented to a judge in Shelby County, Tennessee, at 9 a.m. on Monday, September 11. The document obtained by a news website says that the perpetrator, on September 21, 2021, intentionally, unlawfully, and knowingly sexually assaulted a woman using force while armed with a weapon.

What is the case related to Eliza Fletcher?
Eliza Fletcher, 34, a kindergarten teacher in Memphis, was kidnapped and murdered during pre-dawn jogging at around 4:20 am on September 2. The suspect, Cleotha Henderson, was driving a GMC terrain SUV and allegedly forced Fletcher into the vehicle. According to police, a surveillance camera nearby caught the presence of the GMC Terrain 24 minutes before the abduction.


Law enforcement officers arrested Henderson and took him into custody on September 3. He declined to give any information related to the body of Fletcher. However, as per the affidavit presented in court, Mario, Henderson's brother, told the police that Henderson was spotted cleaning the GMC Terrain's interiors. The body of Eliza Fletcher was found at around 5:07 pm on September 5, at a vacant apartment near the same place where Henderson was spotted cleaning his vehicle.

As per the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and city police, a 2021 entry into the federal government's Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) matched the evidence gathered in the case with Eliza Fletcher, linking Cleotha Henderson's DNA to the earlier victim of the 2021 case.
