Focus on key drugs and supply chain resilience
Three of the four new sites will focus on active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) production, reshoring small-molecule chemical synthesis, and enhancing Lilly’s supply chain. The fourth facility will specialise in developing future injectable therapies, including Mounjaro (for Type 2 diabetes) and Zepbound (for weight loss).Lilly is in discussions with several US states to finalise plant locations, with a proposal deadline set for March 12.

Lilly’s announcement follows a price reduction for Zepbound to make it more affordable for self-paying patients.
