Weather forecast for 2023 is not so great as global temperatures have been predicted to go "off the chart", according to a Guardian report. Temperature will rise due to El Niño climate phenomenon, scientists have claimed.
In their early predictions, Scientists have warned that there will be return of El Niño in the later part of 2023. This will lead to extreme weather around the world. Global temperature is likely to exceed 1.5 degree Celsius, according to the report.
So far, 2016 was the hottest year since the recordings have begun. El Niño was the major reason behind the sudden rise of temperature in 2016.
El Niño has cooler counterpart in form of La Niña. In last three years, La Niña remains the dominant climate phenomenon.
While, 2023 is predicted to be hotter than 2022, there could be new temperature record in 2024. This is because, El Niño climate phenomenon occurs during the winter season of the northern hemisphere and it takes a few months for heating effects to be felt, as per the report.
Last month, the UK's national weather service Met Office had predicted that the year of 2023 will be hotter than that of 2022, BBC reported.
The year of 2023 is likely to be 10th year in a row to witness a rise in temperature of 1 degree Celsius above average, as per the BBC report.
