Earthquake now: Several small earthquakes jolted residents across San Bernardino and Riverside counties Thursday morning, as per a report.

4.3-Magnitude Quake Near Muscoy Was Widely Felt

The shaking began just after 8:30 a.m. when a 3.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Rialto, followed shortly after by a 2.8-magnitude quake and a series of light aftershocks, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS), as reported by CBS News.

The strongest of the quakes came at 9:32 a.m., when a 4.3-magnitude earthquake hit near Muscoy, just north of San Bernardino, according to the report.

Aftershocks Continue Near Rialto and Riverside Areas

The quake was felt widely across Southern California, with reports of shaking coming in from as far north as Bakersfield and as far south as Santa Ysabel, based on data from the USGS Interactive Map, as reported by CBS News.

A few minutes later, at 9:36 a.m., another 3.1-magnitude quake hit the Rialto area again and residents in parts of Riverside County, including Jurupa Valley and Eastvale, also felt the tremors, as per the CBS News report.

According to the KTLA report, shaking was felt as far as Ridgecrest to the north, San Diego to the south, Oxnard to the west and Twentynine Palms to the east.

USGS Earthquakes posted on social media X, “Yes Southern California, that was an earthquake you just felt. Today’s reminder that California is earthquake country,” as quoted by KTLA.

What Did the Seismologist Say?

Dr. Lucy Jones, a seismologist, called those quakes "foreshocks", and Jones said the earthquakes took place in an area known as the "Fontana trend," which she explained tends to have "clusters" of quakes, as quoted by CBS News.
