Dutch Caribbean will pronounce the formal apologies for the slavery past on December 19
On December 19, the Dutch government will send seven state secretaries and ministers to the six Dutch Caribbean islands and Suriname to issue official apologies for slavery in the Dutch colonies.

On December 19, Franc Weerwind, Suriname’s Minister for Legal Security, will issue formal apologies for slavery past. Mark Rutte, Dutch Prime Minister, will do the same in the Netherlands through speech. On Thursday, State Secretary Van Huffelen met with island delegates in Curaçao.
The 6 Dutch Caribbean islands to be visited by the ministers are:

First, the Dutch broadcasting company NOS made this announcement, and then the Dutch government confirmed it. According to NOS’ independent research, in 2022, support for a formal apology among Dutch inhabitants has spiked to 38%. A larger proportion of the Dutch people, 49%, oppose it.
