Robin Bachman was born in Winnipeg in Canada in 1953. Robbie along with his brother Randy began playing music in their youth. It is to note that Robbie played for some other bands in Winnipeg before his brother invited him to play for Brave Belt, with Chad Allan. Brave Belt released two albums, one in 1971 and another in 1972.Brave Belt then changed its name to Bachman-Turner Overdrive in 1973 after Allan left the band. Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s self-titled debut charted No. 9 in Canada and No. 70 on the Billboard rock chart. Bachman-Turner Overdrive II garnered success for the band as the song reached Top 10 in both the United States and Canada.
Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s most successful album was its third album ‘Not Fragile’ and they produced music throughout the 1970s. In 2014, they were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
