On Tuesday, a congressional committee found that while Donald Trump was president, the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) did not audit him as quickly as they were supposed to. This makes it hard to believe what the ex-team president says about how he couldn't release his tax returns because of these ongoing investigations, according to a report by the Democrats
The report by the Democrats in charge of the House Ways and Means Committee stated that the Trump administration may have broken a 1977 IRS law that says a president's tax returns must be audited. The Internal Revenue Service started looking into Trump's tax returns on April 3, 2019. This was more than two years into his presidency and about a month after the Democrats took over Congress.
Trump just announced that he would run for president for the third time, but he hasn't done anything to make or stop the IRS from looking into his finances.

The 29-page study came out just hours after the committee voted along party lines to make Trump's tax returns public. It makes it more likely that more financial information will be released about a billionaire who went against political norms by not voluntarily releasing his records while running for president. The fight between Trump and the Democrats has been going on for years and has happened on the campaign trail.
Some Democrats on the Ways and Means Committee were worried that there was a threat to openness and the rule of law. Republicans said it would set a bad example, while Democrats said it was a good idea.
