Donald Trump’s Gaza takeover plan: Will it succeed as Israel rejects forced relocation?
President Donald Trump’s proposal for the United States to take control of Gaza and relocate around 2 million Palestinians to neighboring countries has sparked intense debate. While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has welcomed the idea, key regional and global leaders have strongly opposed it.

What is the Israeli stance

Danny Danon, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, supports Trump’s plan for U.S. control over Gaza but opposes the forced removal of Palestinians. Speaking to CNN, he said, "I think we all agree that it should require the consent—consent of people to move out from where they live, and the consent for other countries to receive them."

While Danon acknowledges the uncertainty of how this plan will be executed, he maintains that Palestinians may be “doomed to stay where they are” unless alternative solutions emerge. He further emphasized Israel’s determination to prevent Hamas from holding power in Gaza, stating, "If Hamas will stay there, it’s only a matter of time that we will have to attack Gaza again."

What is the Trump’s proposal

During a joint press conference with Netanyahu, Trump announced that the U.S. would “take over the Gaza Strip”, promising to rebuild the war-ravaged region and relocate its population. However, he did not clarify how the U.S. would acquire control, nor did he rule out deploying American troops.

The plan has been met with strong opposition from Arab nations. The Saudi Arabian Foreign Ministry warned that it could harm future diplomatic relations with Israel. Jordan and Egypt, which have historically rejected similar proposals, have again dismissed the idea. Western allies, including the United Kingdom, have also expressed criticism.

Divided opinions in the U.S.

Trump’s proposal has triggered mixed reactions within the U.S. political landscape. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham responded cautiously, stating, "We’ll see what our Arab friends say about that." Meanwhile, Democrats have largely opposed the plan, questioning its feasibility and ethical implications.
