Donald Trump will save TikTok, but there is a catch; here's all about it

Latest reports revealed that US President- elect Donald Trump is all willing to save TikTok who once wanted to ban it severely but there is a specific reason behind that which is extremely significant.

US President- elect Donald Trump has eventually announced plans to issue an executive order which is aimed at postponing a federal ban on TikTok which was implemented due to national security concerns regarding its Chinese ownership, reported Rolling Stone.

According to Rolling Stone, the ban actually took effect on the date of January 19 of the year 2025 while requiring the parent company of TikTok named ByteDance to divest its US operations or face a permanent shutdown. Following the announcement form US President- elect Donald Trump, TikTok began restoring services for its 170 million American users while expressing gratitude for Donald Trump's efforts to keep the platform operational.

The proposed executive order from US President- elect Donald Trump would eventually allow for negotiations to maintain the presence of TikTok in the US and actually suggests a desire for a joint venture where the US would hold a 50% stake, asserted Rolling Stone. Additionally, he also reassured the companies that they would not face penalties for continuing to provide access to TikTok prior to the issuance of the order.

However, at the same time, numerous concerns still remain about the legality of US President- elect Donald Trump's ability to delay enforcement of an already enacted law.

In spite of the restoration of services, lawmakers like Senator Tom Cotton and House Speaker Mike Johnson issued a warning that companies facilitating TikTok could eventually face significant legal liabilities, noted Rolling Stone. US President Joe Biden administration had previously signed the ban into law with bipartisan support while reflecting the ongoing tensions over data security and foreign influence.
