For years, Trump was a familiar figure at Flushing Meadows often spotted in Arthur Ashe Stadium’s luxury suites. He has not attended since September 2015, when he was booed during a quarterfinal match just months after launching his presidential campaign.
The Trump Organisation previously controlled a suite at the US Open located next to the television broadcast booth, but gave it up in 2017 during Trump’s first year in office.
Trump has recently appeared at the Super Bowl, the Daytona 500, UFC fights, the NCAA wrestling championships, and the FIFA Club World Cup final. His presence at such events often draws mixed reactions, with cheers and boos ringing out in equal measure.
While Trump’s connection to the US Open runs deep, it is rare for a sitting president to attend. The last to do so was Bill Clinton in 2000, though Barack and Michelle Obama appeared on opening night in 2023.
