US president Donald Trump has found a way to dump all undocumented immigrants of the United States to El Salvador, according to CBS News.

Trump's plan

The Trump administration is planning with El Salvador to allow the Latin American country to accept immigrants from the US even if they are not El Salvadorian.

The plan would designate El Salvador as a “Safe Third Country” as part of the agreement. This will let migrants seek asylum there instead of the US.


The move which was terminated by President Joe Biden, plans to reinstate an agreement between the two countries. It was brokered during Trump’s first term, which never went into effect.

This would be the first such agreement struck under Trump’s second term, coming weeks after multiple countries rebuffed his attempt to negotiate similar deals. The US currently has the same agreement with Canada.

According to CBS News, Trump has vowed to deport millions of undocumented immigrants across the U.S., and Trump signed multiple executive orders to that effect last week.

The deal between the nations

Close relations between Trump and Salvadorian President Nayib Bukele have helped the deal. Bukele, last week said about their aim to stop illegal immigration and crack down on transnational gangs like Tren de Aragua, a group Trump moved to declare a terrorist organization last week.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio is also set to visit El Salvador next month as part of a trip through Latin America, as per reports.
