Donald Trump official who pushed federal staff to email on ‘Five Accomplishments or Be Fired’ was posting fashion content as workers lost jobs

A White House official spent work hours making video content around fashioning her federal office itself, even when her colleagues were getting fired by the Department of Government Efficiency, in a rather bizarre incident.

As federal agencies slashed jobs under Trump-era workforce cuts—including a controversial mandate requiring employees to email weekly accomplishments or face termination—one official’s priorities raised eyebrows. McLaurine Pinover, a spokesperson for the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), spent work hours filming fashion content in her government office, according to CNN, even as thousands of colleagues lost their jobs.

Playing the fiddle? Instagram account of federal government official showcases fashion content

According to an Independent US report, the now-deleted Instagram account "@getdressedwithmc" featured outfits like a $475 purple midi-skirt, complete with links for followers to purchase the look. In one video, filmed on the fifth floor of OPM’s D.C. headquarters, she blew a kiss to the camera with captions like “work look” and “#dcinfluencer.” The post went live the same day her office circulated a memo streamlining the firing of “poor performing” staff, per CNN. Former OPM employees expressed frustration, noting the stark contrast between her glossy posts and the anxiety gripping colleagues during layoffs.

Pinover, who joined the Trump administration in January, never disclosed her government role on the account, which had around 800 followers. Critics highlighted her proximity to Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), whose staffers worked across the hall. Musk, a key architect of the productivity crackdown, had publicly condemned federal workers for “pretending to work” earlier that year.

Records tie Pinover to a February 22 statement defending Musk’s mandate, which demanded employees submit five weekly achievements. Days later, as OPM sent follow-up emails doubling down on the policy, she posted another video—this time twirling in a chic blazer. Former staffers accused her of tone-deafness, with one lamenting her focus on influencer aspirations amid widespread job cuts.

The controversy underscores tensions within Trump’s efficiency drive, which critics argue prioritizes performative metrics over employee welfare. While Pinover’s posts have vanished, screenshots and internal backlash linger, painting a picture of a bureaucracy divided between austerity and indulgence.
