Donald Trump is stepping up the pressure on former insiders who he claims undermined his presidency.

On Wednesday, President Trump signed two memorandums ordering the Department of Justice to look into two former members of his first administration who opposed him.

Why is Donald Trump targeting Miles Taylor now?

This time, the focus is on Miles Taylor, the former Homeland Security official who wrote the infamous "Anonymous" op-ed. President Trump wants the DOJ to investigate Taylor's past actions, which he calls "egregious."

What’s in the DOJ memo?

Miles Taylor, a deputy chief of staff in the Department of Homeland Security during the first Trump administration, was the target of a memo that Trump signed. Taylor used the pseudonym "Anonymous" to write an opinion piece for the New York Times and a book about how some officials were trying to stop Trump's impulses.

Miles Taylor's current security clearance would be revoked, according to White House staff secretary Will Scharf, and the Justice Department would be instructed "to investigate his activities to see what else might come up in that context given his egregious behavior during your previous administration," as per a report by The Hill.

Donald Trump called Taylor a "traitor" and admitted to reporters that he had "no idea" who he was.

"I believe we need to take action," Trump declared. "It wouldn't be sustainable for other presidents if that happened to them.” “It appears that I can maintain. However, it would be unjust if that had happened to other presidents,” as quoted in a report by The Hill.

Who else is on Trump’s list?

Donald Trump signed a memo targeting former Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) director Chris Krebs beside Miles Taylor.

In 2020, Krebs was adamant that the country's elections were unaffected and rebutted Trump's accusations that the election had been rigged.

According to Scharf, the order "further instructs your Department of Justice … to investigate some of the malign acts he participated in while he was still head of CISA" and cancels any security clearances for Krebs and his associates.

The orders were Trump's most recent act of retaliation against his first administration's detractors and those who have spoken out against him.

Donald Trump has revoked the security credentials of former national security adviser John Bolton, former Defense Secretary Mark Esper, and former President Joe Biden himself.

He has also revoked security clearances for other well-known critics and a number of Biden administration officials, as quoted in a report by The Hill.
