US President Donald Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with the delays in Boeing’s production of two specially modified new Air Force One planes, according to reports.

While speaking to reporters aboard one of the two nearly 35-year-old Boeing 747-200 aircraft still in use, Trump said that he was looking at other options because Boeing is taking too long.

Donald Trump on Boeing delays

Trump said he was not happy with Boeing, and criticised the prolonged delays in delivering the new Air Force One. He suggested exploring alternative options, including the possibility of buying or acquiring a different aircraft.

When asked whether he would consider purchasing aircraft from Airbus, Boeing’s European competitor, Trump firmly stated that he would not opt for Airbus over Boeing. However, he acknowledged the possibility of acquiring a second-hand aircraft and modifying it.

During his first term in office, Trump renegotiated the contract with Boeing, arguing that the original deal was excessively costly. The renegotiation has already resulted in substantial financial losses for the aerospace company.

Boeing faces massive losses

Boeing had a difficult year, reporting a total loss of $11.8 billion in 2024 — its worst financial performance since 2020 when the aviation industry was severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the final three months of 2024, Boeing reported a $3.8 billion loss, partially due to strikes that affected its operations. Alongside persistent challenges in its commercial aircraft division, Boeing also encountered difficulties with several defence contracts.
