Dodgers' Max Muncy on injured list after collision with Taylor

Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy was placed on the injured list Thursday after sustaining a left knee bone bruise during a collision in Wednesday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox.

While an MRI revealed no structural damage, Muncy is expected to be out for approximately six weeks.

The injury occurred in the sixth inning when Muncy tagged out Michael A. Taylor on a stolen base attempt. After the collision, Muncy remained down and had to be helped off the field, unable to put weight on his left leg.



“It was obviously amazing hearing the news that nothing was torn,” Muncy said, though he admitted the recovery timeline felt long.


Taylor, who also left the game with a bruised back, cleared concussion protocol but remained out of Chicago’s lineup Thursday.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he was relieved by Muncy’s test results and avoided watching the replay of the injury. Muncy lamented missing a historic moment - Clayton Kershaw’s 3,000th career strikeout - which occurred just moments after the collision.

“Honestly, that was the most heartbreaking thing to me,” Muncy said.


In Muncy’s absence, Miguel Rojas started at third base on Thursday, and Kiké Hernández is set to play the position Friday. Utilityman Tommy Edman will begin working at third to join the platoon.

To fill Muncy’s roster spot, the Dodgers recalled outfielder Esteury Ruiz from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Ruiz, acquired from the Athletics in April, was batting .292 with 8 homers, 37 RBI, and 38 steals in 66 games.
