In a move that signals the sharing of streaming success, Disney will be bringing James Cameron's highly anticipated sequel, "Avatar: The Way of Water," to streaming platforms on June 7. While Disney distributed the film, it won't be exclusively available on Disney+. Fans will have the opportunity to watch the sequel on both Disney+ and HBO Max, known as Max.

This development means that a broader audience, including those who haven't yet experienced the continuing adventures of Jake Sully, Neytiri, and the mesmerizing world of Pandora, will now have the chance to do so. The exact duration of "The Way of Water" on Max has not been disclosed, but it is likely tied to pre-existing deals signed prior to Disney's acquisition of Fox, the studio behind the original "Avatar" and its subsequent sequels.

One notable distinction between the releases is that Disney+ has mentioned that its version will include "bonus content featuring filmmakers, cast, and crew," providing an added incentive. While it is reasonable to assume that this bonus material corresponds to the current digital release, it still offers an advantage to Disney+. As of now, there is no information available regarding a potential Blu-ray or 4K release, but such releases are likely on the horizon.

"Avatar: The Way of Water" takes place approximately a decade after the events of the 2009 blockbuster. Jake (played by Sam Worthington) has become fully integrated into the Na'vi community, having married Neytiri (portrayed by Zoe Saldana) and started a family. However, when his former rival Quaritch (Stephen Lang) resurfaces in a Na'vi body, the entire Sully family must relocate and seek refuge with a new tribe of Na'vi living and thriving in water. The film, released in December, has surpassed $2.3 billion in global box office revenue, securing its position as the third highest-grossing film of all time, trailing only "Avengers: Endgame" and the original "Avatar."

Although the film is not yet available on either streaming service, Disney+ has already set up a landing page to generate excitement among its subscribers. Meanwhile, HBO Max, or "Max," is yet to provide any updates or information regarding the release.
