Disney shakeup: Sean Bailey exits after 15 years as motion picture president
After 15 years, Sean Bailey is stepping down as president of Disney's motion picture group. David Greenbaum, formerly of Searchlight, is taking over as president of Live Action and 20th Century Studios. Bailey will transition to a producer role.

Effective immediately, Greenbaum will report to Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman. This move consolidates Disney's film divisions, combining live-action, responsible for reimagining classic Disney stories, and 20th Century Studios, previously Fox, acquired by Disney in 2019.
Bergman expressed confidence in Greenbaum's creative vision and leadership skills, citing his successful tenure at Searchlight and strong industry relationships.
Bailey, who led Disney's live-action efforts since 2010, will transition to a producer role on projects like "Tron: Ares." Despite overseeing hits like "The Lion King" and "Beauty and the Beast," Bailey faced challenges, including the underperformance of "The Haunted Mansion" in 2023.
Bergman praised Bailey's contributions and expressed delight that Bailey will continue with Disney as a producer. Bailey expressed gratitude for his time at Disney and looks forward to his new chapter.
Greenbaum, previously president of Searchlight Pictures, brings extensive experience in indie filmmaking, with credits including "The Shape of Water" and "Nomadland." He thanked Disney leadership for the opportunity to contribute to the studio's storytelling legacy.
Steve Asbell will report to Greenbaum and remain president of 20th Century Studios, overseeing projects like the "Avatar" sequels and "Planet of the Apes."
Upcoming projects from Disney include "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," "Alien: Romulus," and a spinoff of "The Lion King" titled "Mufasa." Additionally, remakes of "Snow White," "Moana," and "Lilo & Stitch" are in development.
