Some Tinder users may soon receive a payout after the dating app agreed to settle a lawsuit worth millions. The case claimed certain customers were charged more for premium subscriptions based on their age. Now, eligible users could receive a portion of the $60.5 million settlement.

The agreement opens the door for many current and former subscribers to claim compensation, including some who may have used the app years ago.

Who qualifies for the Tinder settlement payout?


The settlement centers on claims that Tinder charged different prices for its premium services depending on a user’s age.

To qualify for a share of the payout, individuals must have purchased Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold subscriptions while living in California. The purchase must have been made anytime after March 2, 2015.

Another important requirement is age. Customers must have been older than 29 when they paid for the premium service.

As the eligibility period stretches back more than a decade, some former users who no longer use the app may still qualify, as per a report by The US Sun.

The lawsuit alleged that the dating platform charged higher prices to older users for the same subscription services offered to younger customers.

According to the suit, people over 29 paid more for Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold compared with younger subscribers, as per a report by The US Sun.

Are there other major settlements available to consumers?


The Tinder case is not the only large settlement currently involving consumer claims. Customers of Truist Bank may also be eligible for compensation following a separate class-action lawsuit. The bank, previously known as SunTrust Bank, agreed to pay $240 million to resolve claims connected to overdraft fees, as per a report by The US Sun.

The lawsuit alleged the bank charged illegal overdraft fees on certain debit card and ATM transactions.

According to lawyers involved in the case, these fees allegedly affected consumers in Georgia. Eligible customers who had one or more accounts with the bank may be able to receive payments of up to $1,000.
