According to The New York Post, Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, had a turbulent romantic relationship with the daughter of a Chinese Communist Party official while working as a teacher in Foshan, which nearly drove her to suicide.
In a phone interview with The Post on Monday, Jenna Wang, 59, revealed that she fell deeply in love with the current governor of Minnesota when he was a young English teacher at a high school in Foshan, Guangdong province, China.
Wang thought the intense relationship in 1989 would end with a proposal, but instead, it ended in a breakup that led her to think about ending her own life.

Wang clarified that Walz had hinted that he planned to wed her, saying she was deeply insulted and hurt, and she had to leave that place because many people knew that we had a relationship.
His lack of character as a man, a responsible individual who had experience in the military or education, she believed he loved her too.
Wang, who wrote an open letter warning the American electorate about Walz, claimed that they were like husband and wife at first, sharing tea and holding hands privately. Walz arrived in China through the nonprofit WorldTeach, and the two connected while Wang taught at a nearby middle school.
Walz showered Wang with gifts, including gold jewellery and high-waisted blue jeans. However, Wang's open letter also revealed that Walz became the type of man against whom a mother warns her daughter not to get involved. She believed that marriage was what Walz had led her to believe, as well as others.
Wang and Walz had a disagreement over whether she really loved Walz or merely wanted to obtain a visa. Wang felt cheap and common as if she were being treated like a prostitute. They never met again, but Walz returned to China in 1993 as the head of an annual summer student program connecting Nebraska and Minnesota high schoolers with Chinese institutions.
