Did really Donald Trump-Vladimir Putin 'call' take place? Know what has happened

Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin's reported call has become a topic of controversy as Moscow has denied such development.

Donald Trump's stunning US election 2024 victory raised a few questions about how he would handle Russia-Ukraine war and Iran-Israel conflict once he takes charge as President of United States of America. Days after US President-elect Donald Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin and advised him not to escalate the Ukraine war, a source familiar with the conversation said, but the Kremlin denied the two had spoken, Reuters reported.

The Washington Post first reported the call had taken place, citing unidentified sources, and said Trump had told Putin that he should not escalate the Ukraine war. The source told Reuters on Sunday that Trump, who has criticised the scale of U.S. military and financial support for Kyiv and said he will end the war quickly, had spoken to Putin in recent days.

But, in an unusual move, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday no such call had taken place. Asked whether Putin had plans for any contacts with Trump, Peskov said: "There are no concrete plans yet."

Asked about the purported Trump-Putin call, Steven Cheung, Trump's communications director, said: "We do not comment on private calls between President Trump and other world leaders," Reuters reported

In its report, the Post said that Trump reminded Putin in the phone call of Washington's sizeable military foothold in Europe. Several people speaking to the US paper said Trump had expressed the desire for more conversations on "the resolution of Ukraine's war soon" and briefly raised the question of land, AFP reported

The Russian president has demanded Ukraine withdraw from swathes of its eastern and southern territory as a precondition to peace talks. Following Trump's election, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned there should be "no concessions" to Putin. Ukraine and many in the West fear any settlement that rewards Putin would embolden the Kremlin leader and lead to more aggression, according to Reuters report.

Trump spoke to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy last Wednesday.
