The highly awaited release of Nintendo Switch 2 is getting closer and fans are growing more restless with each passing day. While Nintendo had officially revealed the next-gen console earlier this year, details about its specifications remained up for speculation.

However, the official website of the Japanese gaming giant has now dropped what experts believe gives a major glimpse into Switch 2, Polygon reported.

Nintendo Switch 2 hint dropped

While it cannot be exactly determined if the hint was an unintended oversight or a meticulously planned publicity stunt to further elevate the hype for Switch 2, what can be said for certain is that the fans wouldn't mind either way.

In the latest Nintendo Direct, the company made a load of announcements, including the introduction of a new Virtual Game Cards feature. Soon thereafter, fans noted something on the official page of the Virtual Game Cards which confirms something that was only a speculation until then. The fine print on the page mentioned "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games". This suggests that besides exclusive games, remastered versions of select last-gen games will also be introduced for Switch 2.

"Compatible systems must be linked to a Nintendo Account to use virtual game cards. Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games and Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games can only be loaded on a Nintendo Switch 2 system," reads the fine print.

Switch 2 Direct scheduled for April 2

However, no matter what the note indicates, it remains impossible to ascertain as of now if works are already underway for the development of Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games. As for Switch 2 itself, we'll have to wait for the upcoming Nintendo Direct stream to get additional details about the console. The broadcast is scheduled for April 2.

Nintendo Today

On Thursday, Nintendo launched a smartphone app that the company says was designed with an aim to establish direct communication with its fans. Named "Nintendo Today", the app has been designed to a variety of content majorly focused on users' favourite game series on a daily basis, the company said in a release.

It also has a calendar feature. "Users’ favorite Nintendo characters appear each day in a brief animation showing what day it is. The user can choose to set up the app calendar with one of five game series: Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, and Pikmin," the release stated.
