U.S. President Donald Trump is having an urgent meeting with Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang on Friday at the White House, reports quoted a White House official as saying. The reported meeting comes a few days after Chinese AI startup Deepseek had sent shockwaves as US artificial intelligence biggies' stock tumbled.

Now there are reports that claimed that Trump administration was evaluating mechanisms to restrict AI chip sales to China. New rules may be coming into effect this spring, to keep advanced computing power in the United States and among its allies, while looking for more ways to block China's access.

The Trump administration is considering tightening restrictions on the American AI chip-maker Nvidia over its sell of H20 chips to the Chinese market, Reuters reported.

While White House official didn't divulge too many details about the meeting but these issues are likely to come up during the VVIP parley.

DeepSeek Impact

DeepSeek last week launched a free assistant it says uses less data at a fraction of the cost of U.S. models.

Within days, it became the most downloaded app in Apple's App Store and stirred concerns about the United States' lead in AI, sparking a rout that wiped around $1 trillion off U.S. technology stocks. At one point, shares of Nvidia, a top producer of AI chips, fell 17 per cent.

Nvidia, which controls 80 per cent of global AI markets, sells its H20 chips to the China market, three people familiar with the matter told Reuters on Wednesday. H20 chips can be used to run AI software and were designed to comply with existing U.S. curbs on shipments to China implemented by Biden.

Reuters reported on Thursday that the U.S. Commerce Department is looking into whether DeepSeek has been using U.S. chips that are not allowed to be shipped to China, a person familiar with the matter said.
