Bill Maher had plenty to say on Friday night. Why did Bill Maher defend Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Show?

Earlier in the episode, Maher addressed the backlash surrounding Bad Bunny’s halftime performance. Critics had called the set too sexual and objected to it being performed in Spanish. Maher dismissed much of the outrage as exaggerated.

“They hated it because it was in Spanish, but now they’re pretending to hate because it was ‘smutty,’” he said.

He added that not understanding the lyrics didn’t bother him, joking he watched it “like Olympic curling,” explaining, “I had no idea what the was happening, but I was like, ‘Everyone is looking like they’re having fun."

His remarks came as Republican lawmakers such as Andy Ogles and Mark Alford criticized the performance, while Democrats including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jim McGovern, and Gavin Newsom praised it, as quoted in a report by Decider.

What did Bill Maher say about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce?

Later in the broadcast, Maher pivoted to a broader discussion about Americans having less sex before zeroing in on Taylor Swift’s romantic evolution, and her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce.

“Hear me out, I think Taylor Swift epitomizes the journey that a lot of women have been going through,” Maher said. “Yes, women wanted men to be more sensitive — sensitive, but not some noodle-bodied human turtleneck who wears the same clothes they do.”

He continued with sharper jabs that Taylor Swift went from writing songs about her exes. "She dated a procession of skinny… gay-adjacent, meek porcelain doll, shy guy, twink-like, tortured poet metrosexuals in America and Europe. But that second she got some old school wood from the Heartland, it was game over," as quoted in a report by Decider.

The audience responded with loud applause before Maher wrapped the bit with, “So welcome home, Taylor.”
