Deputy Police Chief of Georgia arrested in Florida for soliciting prostitution. Here's the details

In a shocking incident, a Deputy Police Chief of Georgia was found soliciting prostitution in Florida. On Thursday, the Cartersville DPC Jason DiPrima was arrested from Polk County, Florida, on the charges of soliciting for prostitution, lewdness and assignation.

The Cartersville Police Department released an official statement that DPC DiPrima had been sent on administrative leave and that an internal investigation was being carried out. As per media reports, DiPrima joined the Cartersville Police Department in 1996 and became the Deputy Police Chief in 2015.

Prostitution laws in Georgia

Prostitution is illegal in the state of Georgia. Any person receiving any benefits of monetary or any other kind for performing a sexual act is considered a criminal.


The law also extends to the person engaged in any aspect of the business of prostitution, even if not directly engaging in sexual activity. The landlord of the place where such business of prostitution is conducted can also be arrested for the crime if the paid sexual activity is known to the landlord.

According to the Fox News report, DPC DiPrima committed the soliciting crime in Florida. Like Georgia, prostitution remains illegal in Florida as well. Under the chapter on prostitution, the law not only classifies any act of prostitution to be illegal but also classifies soliciting another person for prostitution to be illegal.

Solicitation, for which DPC Jason DiPrima was arrested, is an equal crime, usually classified as a misdemeanor. It can classify the offender as a sex offender for a lifetime and may require the offender to attend sex education classes. However, in certain cases, solicitation may also become a felony, which results in a prison term and penalties ranging between $1,000 and $5,000.

The law in Florida is stricter, which considers a second-time offender as a felony criminal, even if the crime was originally under the misdemeanor category.

The law also requires the criminal to spend 100 hours of community service, pay a hefty penalty and attend a paid educational programme on the ill-effects of prostitution and trafficking.
