New York State Senator Liz Krueger has proposed the idea of her state and its northeastern neighbors which include Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont seceding from the US to join Canada in response to US President- elect Donald Trump’s anticipated policies, reported Newsweek.

According to Newsweek, Liz Krueger, who chairs the Senate Finance Committee eventually expressed concerns that under Donald Trump's administration, liberal states could face cuts in federal funding specifically related to immigration policies and mass deportations.

This is not the first time Liz Krueger has suggested such radical measures where she previously mentioned the possibility of these states becoming a new province of Canada, asserted Newsweek. In spite of her bold proposition, Liz Krueger’s ideas have been met with skepticism from some of her Democratic colleagues, who eventually placed an argument that focusing on secession is impractical and distracts from addressing the challenges posed by Donald Trump’s policies.
