Jim Montgomery, head coach of Boston Bruins has been trying to bring more support while trying to coax more offense from his defensemen as they join the rush with a greater volume this season. In Boston, he has been successful in his efforts in a big way with his recent 7-3 win against the Florida Panthers at TD Garden on Monday night.
The Black and Gold jersey holders were able to successfully score two goals from Bruins D-men, which resulted in their victory. This included a stay-at-home defenseman Brandon Carlos' first goal of the season, making him the 21st player, who scored a goal for the Bruins this season. This was Carlo’s first goal in 44 games. While Patrice Bergeron and Jake DeBrusk occupied the position of defenders with their net drive, it was an all over textbook offensive play by the Bruins with Brad Marchand keeping Carlos as the trailer. When asked about Carlos' recent performance in the game, Montgomery clarified that “I think he has been awesome [defensively]. I think in the last 10-15 games, Carlos has been playing great hockey. He unfortunately got hurt early in the year and it took him a couple games to get back into rhythm. But he is really good for us.”

Carlos's “quick response in the game” made all the difference as he slipped one past the glove hand on a feed from Marchand. This helped the Bruins maintain a 2-0 lead in the first period. Carlos, who now has a goal and six points in 27 games while averaging 18:35 of ice time this season, also boasts a strong plus-15. Even though nobody is expecting Carlos to turn into a regular offensive threat from the back end overnight, Monday night, however, was a reminder that the 26-year-old defenseman can definitely chip in and live up to the role envisioned for him by the Boston Bruins coaching staff.
