Around 12:30 p.m., the Warren County Sheriff's Office sent out an emergency notification related to an active SWAT situation unfolding in the Woodfield development in Deerfield Township, as reported by WLWT5. The alert, meant for residents within a quarter-mile radius of the standoff on Spring Mill Way, was instead sent to phones throughout the entire county and even reached some neighboring counties, according to the report.

Emergency Alert Sent Across Warren County

“Emergency Alert,” the message read, “Secure doors and windows,” as reported by WLWT5. It urged people to remain indoors but offered no further explanation, as per the report. The lack of context caused concern among residents, many of whom turned to social media and local law enforcement for answers, according to WLWT5.

Warren County Sheriff's Office Issues Clarification

However, the Warren County Sheriff's Office later clarified the error in a post on social media platform, X, saying, "We have an active incident in the Landen area of Deerfield Township, where an emergency alert inadvertently went out to unintended areas," adding," There is no threat to the community and this is an isolated incident," as per the X post.

Emergency Alert Intended for Deerfield Township Residents Only

The Office also wrote, "We ask those that live in the area of the Woodfield development in Deerfield Township to shelter in place until further notice," ending it with, "Thank you," as per the X post.

Follow-Up Alert Sent Urging Residents Not to Call 911

Shortly after, a follow-up alert was issued, asking people outside the affected neighborhood to disregard the earlier message, according to the WLWT5 report. The notification said that the "last message is for Deerfield Twp only, please do NOT call 911!," as quoted in the report.

Neighboring Counties Also Got The Wrong Alert

Meanwhile, some neighboring counties, including Butler County's sheriff departments, also had to post public messages to calm concerned residents who had received the alert due to the error.

The Butler County Sheriff's Office's posted on the social media site Facebook, saying, "If you received an alert to shelter in place, please be advised it was mistakenly sent out by another agency to the entire Tri-State area. This alert does NOT apply to Butler County residents. It is intended ONLY for residents of Deerfield Township in Warren County. There is no threat to Butler County at this time," as per the post.

The SWAT standoff itself remains an active situation, but authorities have not yet released details about the reason for the standoff or why the alert was sent out, according to WLWT5. The incident is confined to the Woodfield development, and law enforcement had urged only those living in the immediate area to stay indoors with windows and doors secured, as per the report.

Around 1:34 p.m., about an hour after the initial alert, a third message was sent out, officially canceling the wider alert, saying "Cancel safety alert, situation is focused at Spring Mill Way, Deerfield Twp. No threats to rest of Warren County," as quoted by WLWT5.
