DeepSeek is the primer; here are other Chinese AI chatbots launched recently to take on Silicon Valley titans
DeepSeek and other Chinese AI companies like MiniMax, Qwen, and Tencent's Hunyuan3D have showcased China's growing AI power in response to advances made by the US.

According to a Fortune report, some analysts claim that these AI launches are part of a strategic push to respond to recent announcements in the US. This comes after president Donald Trump unveiled the $500 billion "Stargate" initiative to build up AI infrastructure in the US.
While DeepSeek has gotten a lot of attention for its entry into the AI space with a lower-cost alternative to the likes of OpenAI, it is just one piece of a larger picture, as per the report. Other Chinese firms are showing that they too are contenders in the AI race.
Here are the recently released Chinese AI models:
MiniMax
MiniMax, a startup backed by Chinese tech giants Tencent and Alibaba, released a new series of open-source models two weeks ago. It is under the name MiniMax-01, reported Fortune. The series includes a general-purpose foundational model, the MiniMax-Text-01, and the visual multimodal model MiniMax-VL-01, as per the report.

Qwen
Qwen, backed by Alibaba, launched Qwen2.5-VL. It is an upgraded version that can perform various types of image and text analysis tasks and can also interact with software either on a PC or smartphone, according to Fortune.
The Qwen team claimed that the Qwen2.5-VL is better than GPT-4o when compared to video benchmarks, reported Fortune.
Tencent, one of China’s largest tech players, released Hunyuan3D-2.0 last week, reported Fortune. This tool will streamline the time-consuming process of creating 3D assets for video games, as per the report. Traditionally, artists spend weeks or months crafting highly detailed 3D models, but with Tencent’s Hunyuan3D-2.0, that process is expected to be far quicker, the report added.
