Godzilla Minus One, the 37th Godzilla movie, is making waves in the United States! Even though it kicked off with a short run, it's turning out to be a surprise hit. The movie, straight from Japan, landed in the U.S. on December 1, taking us back to the 1940s and showing Godzilla's mutation and enlargement due to nuclear tests. Initially slated for a short run in just over 1,000 theaters, the movie's success has led to an extension of its theatrical presence.

The decision for Godzilla Minus One's brief stint in U.S. theaters primarily stems from the historical performance of foreign films against native-language releases. So, the folks behind Godzilla thought, "Okay, let's keep it short and sweet." This plan matched what happened with the last Godzilla flick, Shin Godzilla, which also had a quick run.

But hold on! Godzilla Minus One decided to throw us a curveball. Making more than $26.7 million at the box office, it's now the highest-grossing Godzilla movie from Toho Studios here. Imagine that! The movie has been hanging out in the top five for weeks, which is a big deal. So, now, they're giving it some extra time in 2,600 theaters starting December 15. Catch it while you can!
