De La Soul founding member David Jolicoeur passes away at 54
The trio De La Soul was honoured at last week's Grammy Awards in Los Angeles during a homage to the genre for changing the face of hip-hop in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The American performer has previously discussed his congestive heart disease in the media.
Maseo (Vincent Lamont Mason Jr), Jolicoeur, and Posdnuos (Kelvin Mercer) created the famed group together.
Paying his tribute, Cypress Hill rapper B Real referred to Jolicoeur as a "legend of hip hop music and culture" in a post on Twitter.
He remarked, "His music will enable him to dwell in our hearts and minds. "He was a fantastic human being in addition to being a brilliant musician. We loved him very much."
We lost another legend of hip hop music and culture in my brother Trugoy aka Dave of De La Soul. His music will allow him to live in our hearts and minds as he is gone. But not only was he a great musician but he was a great human being. He meant a lot to us 🙏🏼 pic.twitter.com/5PlZWX65CF

Until recently, De La Soul's usage of hundreds of samples has been constrained by complicated licensing constraints. On March 3, the first six albums of De La Soul are set to be available on digital streaming sites.
Their debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising, which debuted in 1989, peaked at number one on Billboard's top R&B/hip-hop album chart and frequently features on lists of the best albums ever made. Hits like The Magic Number and Me, Myself, and I were featured.
