Actor Henry Cavill may have to wait a little longer to play 'Superman' as the makers of "Man of Steel" reportedly are not thinking about the sequel. According to media reports, James Gunn and Peter Safran’s future plans for the DC Universe do not include "Man of Steel 2".

In fact, some reports suggested that the studio could be shutting down Cavill’s Superman sequel altogether. The Hollywood Reporter mentioned in a report that DC Studio’s debating internally whether to retain the Superman cameo Cavill performed earlier in September for the upcoming The Flash movie. Cavill had done a similar cameo for the Dwayne Johnson starrer "Black Adam", in which the 'Rock' plays the titular character.

After "Black Adam" was released in October, Cavill had revealed on Instagram that he would be returning as the Big Blue Boy Scout for the DCU movies. Subsequent reports also confirmed the news and suggested that Warner Bros. was developing the sequel to "Man of Steel" (2013) and Andy Muschietti could be the writer. However, nothing has panned out yet.

Some reports in November claimed the old management of Warner Bros. did not want Cavill’s cameo in the Black Adam film. However, Dwayne Johnson’s lobbying and the new leadership after the Discovery merger ensured Cavill’s return. The Rock had criticized Warner Bros. earlier for ignoring Cavill after "Justice League" (2017).

And now, the reports of Man of Steel 2 not materializing have resurfaced ahead of Gunn’s and Safran’s scheduled meeting with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav. Last month, Henry Cavill expressed his willingness to talk to James Gunn about the future of DCU. He had praised Gunn for his intelligence and said that he would like to sit down with Gunn and have long conversations.
