The Day of the Dead, or Dia de Los Muertos, is celebrated every year on November 1 and November 2. On this day, families honor their dead family members by creating ‘altars’, called ‘ofrendas’, at cemeteries or their homes. Each altar is decorated with sugar skulls, candles, flowers, and garlands. Favorite meals of the dead members are cooked and left out in the hopes that their spirits will come to eat them.
