Darius Miles: Ex-University of Alabama basketball player, charged with capital murder, claims innocence

Darius Miles, the University of Alabama basketball player, who was arrested and charged with the murder of the 23-year-old woman, has claimed that he is innocent, according to his lawyers. He is one of the two accused in Tuscaloosa's fatal shooting on The Strip.

According to reports, a statement released by his lawyers said that Darius Miles and his entire family are “heartbroken” over the death of Jamea Jonae Harris. It also said that even though Miles is one of the two accused in the killing, he maintains his innocence and looks forward to his day in court. The Crimson White University of Alabama’s official newspaper, also posted the statement by Miles’ attorneys.



Jamea Jonae Harris, identified as the victim, was a Birmingham native and was not affiliated with the University of Alabama. After responding to a shooting around 1:45 am (local time) on Sunday, the police found her shot and killed while sitting in a car close to the university’s campus. Along with Darius Miles, Michael Lynn Davis, 20, is also charged in the shooting, according to Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit.

Both Miles and Davis are being held without a bond. However, Miles’ lawyers said that they are investigating the matter. Miles is being represented by Boles Holmes White LLC’s William White, Clayton Tartt and Suzanne Norman.

A day prior to the shooting, on Saturday, it was announced that the junior forward was out of the season due to an ankle injury. But after his arrest, UA Athletics announced that Miles was not a part of the team anymore.
