Danish pension fund to sell $100 million in US Treasuries over finance risks
A popular finance account called The Kobeissi Letter posted on X that a Danish pension fund plans to sell all its U.S. Treasury bonds. The pension fund is named AkademikerPension, which is based in Denmark. The fund said it will sell all its U.S. Treasuries by the end of this month.

The value of the U.S. Treasury bonds it plans to sell is about $100 million, as stated by Reuters report. The fund said the main reason for this move is weak U.S. government finances. AkademikerPension believes U.S. finances are becoming hard to manage and risky in the long term.

US Government finances

The fund’s Investment Director and CIO, Anders Schelde, said U.S. finances are no longer “sustainable.” He explained that the decision is based on poor fiscal discipline in the U.S. Another reason mentioned is a weaker U.S. dollar, which increases financial risk.

The Kobeissi Letter added that President Donald Trump’s push related to Greenland has also raised concerns. However, AkademikerPension clearly said this decision is not meant as a political message. The fund said the move is not directly linked to the disagreement between Denmark and the U.S. over Greenland, as cited by Reuters.

Greenland political tension

Anders Schelde said the Greenland issue did not cause the decision, but it made it easier to take. The fund said it now wants to find other safer ways to manage cash and risk instead of U.S. Treasuries. AkademikerPension manages a total of 164 billion Danish crowns, which is about $25.74 billion, as noted by Reuters.

The announcement shows that some global investors are becoming nervous about U.S. debt. This decision comes at a time when markets are closely watching U.S. spending, debt, and political tensions.
