Czech footballer Jakub Jankto comes out as gay, says ‘I want to live my life in freedom’ in powerful video
The 27-year-old Jakub Jankto is a former Udinese and Sampdoria star and is presently on loan at Sparta Prague from LaLiga’s Getafe. He has won 45 caps for the Czech Republic and has played at Euro 2020.

In the video, Jakub Jankto introduced himself and said that like everybody else, he also has his own strengths and weaknesses, he has family and friends, a job, and a passion. However, the 27-year-old continues that he also wants to live his life in “freedom without fears, without prejudice, without violence, but with love”.

Supporting Jankto’s decision to come out as gay, Sparta Prague released a statement saying that the 27-year-old spoke openly about his sexual orientation with the club “some time ago”. The club then says that everything else concerns the personal life of the player. Sparta Prague concluded the statement by saying, “No further comments. No more questions. You have our support. Live your life, Jakub. Nothing else matters.”
Even the official Premier League Twitter account replied to Jankto’s message and said, “We’re with you, Jakub. Football is for everyone”. The global union for players, Fifpro also said on social media, “Live your life, Jakub. Proud” accompanied by a heart emoji.
