Crocodile of Wall Street: Crypto hacker's wife sentenced to 18 months in prison for helping husband in $10 billion bitcoin heist

Heather Morgan who is pretty famously known as ‘Razzlekhan’ and the ‘Crocodile of Wall Street’ was eventually sentenced to 18 months in prison for her role in laundering stolen bitcoin which is worth approximately $10 billion, reported New York Post. Heather Morgan aged 34 and her husband, Ilya Lichtenstein aged 35 were involved in a notorious hack of the Bitfinex cryptocurrency exchange in the year 2016 during which they stole nearly 119,754 bitcoins.

According to New York Post, Ilya Lichtenstein received a five-year sentence for his part in the crime last week. Both Heather Morgan and Ilya Lichtenstein pleaded guilty last year while Ilya Lichtenstein claimed that Heather Morgan was not at all involved in the hack but helped conceal the stolen funds.

The couple eventually employed complex methods to launder the cryptocurrency while using fictitious identities and small transactions to avoid detection. New York Post noted that they were arrested back in February 2022 when the stolen bitcoin was valued at $71 million, but its value has since skyrocketed.

During her sentencing, Heather Morgan expressed remorse for her actions while stating she regretted using her talents for harm instead of good, asserted New York Post. Prosecutors noted that while she was a willing participant, she was considered a lower-level accomplice compared to Ilya Lichtenstein.
