After a hearing on Wednesday, Judge Edward Miller of the Court of Common Pleas in Pickens County, South Carolina, declared that the witness is significant and necessary to the investigation and that the state of Georgia is ensuring not to impose an unreasonable hardship on him.
The case came before the South Carolina judge as Meadows now resides in South Carolina, and the Atlanta-area prosecutors sought an injunction there requiring his compliance with the subpoena.
According to Meadows' attorney, James Bannister, he intends to appeal the decision.
The South Carolina judge questioned the applicability of the evidence Meadows' attorney attempted to provide at the hearing, which lasted less than an hour, and rejected Meadows' reasons for why he should not be required to comply with a subpoena. Miller also intervened when Bannister's query to a prosecutor involved in the Atlanta inquiry raised the possibility that the investigation had a partisan motivation.
