Convicted paedophile Gary Glitter to get released from prison soon

Gary Glitter, the English pop star, of yester era, will be released from prison early next year. Gary, whose real name in Paul Gadd, was jailed for 16 years for attempted rape, unlawful making out with a girl under 13, and four counts of indecent assault in 2015.

Glitter, who is 78 years old, was sentenced in February 2015 at Southwark Crown Court for "depraved and dreadful crimes" against fans. From 1975 to 1980, the offences included making out with a girl under the age of 13, attempting to rape an eight-year-old, and repeatedly molesting a third girl.

Glitter would be released as early as February 2023, as per sources. "The nature of his determinate sentence means the case won't go to the Parole Board. It simply means that as soon as his sentence is over, he is free to walk out of the prison gates." said the sources from the Ministry of Justice.



One of his victims, Diem, said: “He will always be a terrible danger to young girls. It’s terrifying to think he might soon be free, even though he is on the other side of the world from me.”

Offenders convicted of sexual offences are released under strict conditions. The licence requires that the user stays on approved premises, obeys curfews and has GPS tracking. They cannot have unsupervised contact with children and restrict internet usage. Exclusion zones can also be set up to protect victims' families from unwanted contact. If offenders violate the conditions, the Probation Service has the authority to return them to prison.

The 78-year-old rose to prominence as a glam-rock star known for his wild live performances in the 1970s and 1980s. One of his number-one hits were I'm The Leader Of The Gang (I Am), I Love You Love Me Love, and Always Yours. Although he fell from grace after being convicted of downloading child pornography in 1999.
