Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez announces engagement with her college sweetheart Robert Riley

Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (Also known by her abbreviation as AOC) is well on the road to being married to her beau Robert Riley. America can’t be happier as Alexandria confirmed the announcement of their wedding on Twitter by a friend, as wishes started pouring in.

Born to a Puerto Rican family in the Bronx in New York, Alexandria first met her would-be husband Robert at Boston University while studying there. She studied sociology and finance in College. She double majored in Economics and International relations and also earned a distinction. She is popular in the USA as she is the first youngest Congresswoman to assume office at the age of 29. Prior to running for Congress, she was an activist and also worked as a bartender and waitress. She represents the eastern part of the Bronx, Queens, and Rikers Island in New York City. She was strongly supported by her then-boyfriend, Robert who actually funded her bid for Congress by developing her website.

Robert Riley on the other hand hailed from Arizona, born to an affluent family where his father was a real estate agent. During Alexandria’s bid for congress in the primaries against the 10-term incumbent, and Democratic powerhouse, Representative Joe Crowley, Robert also campaigned for her. Crowley's 2018 defeat was one of the major upsets of the primaries that year. He also worked in the food service of the left-leaning “Squad” of Democratic Socialists of America. Robert and Alexandria had broken up post their college completion but reunited in New York after Robert returned from Arizona where he worked as a website developer.


We hope that the couple finds immense happiness as Alexandria continues the good work she is doing as a woman of colour in America. Her “Green New Deal” to fight against carbon footprint and emissions and the hurdles beyond would certainly need the support of her husband to be and the world at large.
