Congressman Donald McEachin dies at 61 after battling colorectal cancer

Congressman and Representative of Virginia, Donald McEachin, died on Monday, losing battle to colorectal cancer. He was a Democrat and was recently re-elected for the fourth term.

Rep. Donald McEachin of Virginia died of colorectal cancer on Monday. He was a Democrat, who fought for the people of Virginia and defended their rights since 1996 till date. He played many stellar roles and took up issues related to the environment and social causes.

McEachin is survived by his wife and lawyer, Colette and three adult children. He was known to be a very caring man and took up local issues with tremendous zeal. Virginia has lost a son, and many representatives, senators, and governors have come to bid adieu to the departed leader.

Chief of Staff Tara Rountree from his Congressional office said they would all miss their boss and friend Congressman Donald McEachin. The office in-charge recounted the contributions of the late Congressman. It felt that Virginia’s Fourth Congressional District had lost a hero who always took up their issues and put service to them ahead of himself.


Democrat Senator Mark Warner of Virginia, who was also governor between 2002 and 2006, said he has only warm memories of the man. He agreed that Virginia had lost a leader, and he had lost a friend. Senator Tim Kaine recalled he met McEachin for the first time in 1985, and they have been growing as friends from strength to strength. Their kids are of similar age, and the two men had been on the Virginia delegation for years.

Senator Kaine was last with McEachin on his victory day a few weeks back. He said the man was a gentle giant, who would be greatly missed.
Democrat Rep. Abigail Spanberger of Virginia, who also was re-elected in the 7th District, said she had lost a friend, who always made others feel important. She would always miss his presence in the courthouse, the General Assembly, the US Congress, or in a personal domain.

House Democrat and Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries of New York said the Congressman would be missed in the Caucus, the Commonwealth, and the Congress. The man had approached people with service and a bright smile.

Donald McEachin took up issues related to the climate and environment while on Capitol Hill. He was on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the Natural Resources Committee, and the Select Committee on Climate Crisis. He served in the Virginia Senate from 2008 to 2017.
