Comedian Jay Leno suffers third degree burns: All you need to know about his treatments and skin grafting procedure
Dr. Peter Grossman described comedian Jay Leno's treatment regimen for second and third-degree burns caused by a gasoline fire.

Dr. Peter Grossman, medical director of the Grossman Burn Center, who is treating Leno, outlined the comedian's current treatment plan during a news conference on Wednesday. He said that Leno had a surgical excision and grafting treatment on his face, chest, and hands. By eliminating harmful tissue, the operation is intended to enhance wound healing and minimize the risk of infection.
Grossman noted that his burns were in the mid-partial to deep partial thickness range, which implies that most of the skin's thickness was affected in some spots. To speed up healing, you should remove any unhealthy tissue that is a source of inflammation and a possible source of infection in the wound.
He went on to say that while under anesthesia, those wounds are meticulously cleansed and debrided or shaved away, and a biological skin replacement is applied to the wounds to speed up healing and establish a wound-healing environment that pushes the body to proceed favorably.
